The women I photograph are ones I choose for their unique blend of beauty, grace, sensuality and attitudes toward the creative process we are working together on. It takes more than just surface beauty to create work that induces an emotional response in a sensitive viewer. These women are beautiful human beings all the way through, each with their own gifts and personalities.
Some of these women are aspiring to be models, but most are not. I will often work with the same models over a period of years. I find this fulfilling not only because I see the evolution of confidence in them, but also because we capture the transitions they go through such as the development of character expressed in their faces, attitude changes in body language, new wrinkles and even pregnancies. (The pregnancies are not part of my doing.) We form a unique friendship because of the intimate nature of our work and the process is one of self-discovery not only for them but also for myself.
